Almost New Years

Devin has finally got the hang of napping on his own these days. Yeah! I finally got smart and started swaddling him tight in a blanket. He hated being swaddled in the beginning so I pretty much gave up on it. But now, swaddling is back in and Devin truely "sleeps like a baby." I wish I had tried it sooner. It is wonderful having him nap for a few hours straight instead of a bunch of little cat naps throughout the day. I go back to work on February 1st, so I'm trying to get him into a routine as best I can. Although I hear that any routine will change weekly if not daily. :-) We are blessed to have Vickie and Fred (Rich's Mom and Dad) and Marcella (my Mom) watch Devin when Rich and I both go back to work full time. Right now, Rich is on his winter break so we've been spoiled with our non-working schedule. But we both feel great knowing how much love Devin will get from our family when Rich and I get back into the swing of working full time again soon.

Hope you all have a wonderful New Years. We'll most likely be laying low and thrilled with excitement as we watch our baby sleep through the New Year (one can always hope right?). All the best to you in 2007!

Merry Christmas

Resting up before his first Christmas
Hanging out with cousin James
Rich and Devin catching some shut eye together. So sweet.

Merry Christmas to everyone. We had a great couple of days visiting Rich's family in San Jose. And then we came back to Sacramento for a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebration with Jen's family and close friends. What a great holiday full of wonderful family, food, and company. We haven't sent out our holiday cards yet, but don't completely count us out as a New Years card is still possible. :-)

Devin is doing great. He's smiling and making all kinds of cooing sounds these days. He is such a happy baby in the morning and is self entertained for quite a while. It's so wonderful. He can see things close and far away now, so the paper airplane Rich set up on the ceiling fan in the living room is a big hit to say the least.

2 Month Check Up

Devin had an appt. with the pediatrician yesterday and everything went well. He's up to 13 pounds, 11 ounces and 24 inches long. That puts him at the 90% percentile for weight and 85% percentile for height. His head measured at the 25% percentile - he's bound to have a pinhead like his mom! The doctor said that he looked great and was right on schedule, if not ahead based on his numbers. Devin got his first round of immunizations and took them like a total champ. I think it was harder on Rich and I. Devin even smiled in the car on the way home. Unfortunately, he was really cranky later in the day. But he woke up feeling much better today thankfully.

2 Months Old

Just hanging out.

My little laundry helper.

Devin is two months old today. He can now see things very well and is completely fascinated with the stockings above the fireplace, the lights on the Christmas tree, Rich's birthday balloon, and the OM symbol painted on the wall in his room. I imagine he'll start reaching out for things very soon. He also is really good at chewing on his hand, which gives him a good 20 minutes of pure entertainment. It is also a good chance for me to get some things done around the house. Devin is also starting to sleep longer at night too. Yeehaw. I get about four to five hours at the beginning of the night, which is followed by another three hour segment. He is so happy in the morning and loves to look around, smile, and make sounds. It is amazing how much he's grown up already. And we see him changing daily.

8 Weeks Old

So happy in the morning.

Saying hey to all my fans out there.

I found my hand a couple days ago and now can chew on it. Yes!

It is hard to believe Devin is eight weeks old already. He is full of smiles in the morning and will even let out a laugh or two. This is in big contrast to the evenings where we hear all kinds of funny (and very loud) sounds coming out the other end of him. Really! We went to mommy class again this week and Devin weighed in at 13 pounds. Our boy is still gaining one pound per week which far exceeds the doctor's expectations. We recently learned that between weeks 7 and 11, there is a huge amount of brain development. It is also during this time that he'll start remembering who he spends time with and be drawn to them over strangers. It amazes me how much babies change in just a matter of weeks. We just love our little guy to pieces.
